SensoryWise Design was born from a desire to help the community develop environments that are soothing to the senses. I realized the importance of this after having three children with neurological differences. Helping them along their journey taught me a lot about the importance of the relationship between our nervous system and our environment. Our journey also opened my eyes to the larger community of people with similar needs.
Hi ~ I'm Colinda,
I create designs for people who have spicy brains or who need help feeling comfortable in their surroundings. I've been studying the research behind sensory needs since my son was diagnosed in 2014 with Autism. Helping people create spaces they love to live in with the knowledge of that research, makes me so proud and drives every step of my process.
If you're looking for designs based on your needs, I'd love to work with you. My academic credentials include a Master of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, an Associate of Science in Drafting and an Associate of Science in General Studies.
Here are three things most people don't know about me...I have a "neuro-spicy" brain. For me, that means many things, including the fact that I love to hyperfocus on new interests or glittery objects. My hearing is extremely sensitive. For example, I can hear the frequency shift in the refrigerator motor. Thankfully, I found ear plugs that help reduce sensory overload. Finally, I could watch the movie, Romancing the Stone, on constant replay. So, "Here's to you Jesse, wherever you are...".

Does the idea of going to a crowded grocery store feel overwhelming?
Do patterns in wall paper or carpet make you feel nauseous?
Does the sound of lights buzzing or the refrigerator drive you crazy?
If you are a business owner, do you have customers who are frustrated while checking in for appointments or become annoyed during processes?
Do you want an exterior space designed for mobility issues, an aging parent or stress relief?
At SensoryWise Design, I offer a range of services that address these issues. I can work with commercial or residential applications that include a variety of settings from interior solutions to garden design services.
After the initial exploratory call, we can discuss which package is right for you.
Everyone prefers to experience their environment in different ways. For example, some people enjoy environments that provide stimulating sensory input while others prefer a more subdued environment with calming sensory experiences.
Did you know that the view from the window can be more entertaining than the view from the curb? In one installation, I created a small sanctuary for birds that can only be seen from inside the home. The ability to view birds within a protected habitat creates a calming interaction with nature.
Do you like little surprises on your doorbell camera? A ground orchid placed near the front door can attract hummingbirds for you to see up close even while you are away from home.
What is your sensory style preference? Do you prefer stimulating experiences or calming experiences? To find out, take the Sensory Quiz by Sensory Intelligence Consulting to learn more then, navigate back to the SensoryWise webpage.
